Introduction

I thought it might be nice if people visiting this blog had some sense of what it is I'm doing and what to expect. So here's what's happening: I decided I needed to shake things up a little by quitting my job and leaving Washington, DC to travel for as long and as far as I could on as little money as possible.

An ideal way to do this is to work on organic farms through the organization World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms, or WWOOF. As a WWOOFer, I am exchanging my labor (usually just half a day, five days a week) for the opportunity to live and learn on farms utilizing organic, holistic, or otherwise alternative agriculture.

I have a place to stay and food to eat without spending any more than it costs me to get from place to place, and I get to be out of my element and learn something new. The plan is to work my way across the US (with plenty of detours) and then out of it, probably into the Pacific (like Fiji and/or New Zealand). Hopefully it doesn't turn out to be a complete disaster.

This blog is my way of updating everyone I know with details and photos from my experience, in lieu of massive emails. I hope to add something new every few weeks, or whenever I've spent enough time in one place to have a story to tell.
